Facts About L-Lysine
l-Lysine, an amino acid, provides nutritional
support for the body's natural defenses. You need
lysine to be alive, it is essential. You have to get
about 1 gram a day to keep in protein balance,
but you can take lysine, pure lysine, a perfectly
non toxic substance in food, as pills, which puts
extra lysine molecules in the blood. They enter
into competition with the lysyl residues on the
wall of arteries and accordingly count to prevent
Lipoprotein(a) from being deposited, or even will
work to pull it loose and destroy atherosclerotic
plaques [Linus Pauling, Aug 1994].
Lipoprotein(a) is the major cause of heart and
blood vessel diseases. It is ten times more
dangerous than the LDL Cholesterol (Bad
cholesterol).
Linus Pauling is the one and only two times Nobel
Prize winner. Pauling therapy of human
cardiovascular disease consists of megadose
vitamin C and Lysine.
He recommended that every adult should take at
least 3 grams of vitamin C and 1-2 grams of
L-lysine per day as a preventative against heart
attacks and stroke.
Those who are considered high risk, (that is,
anyone whose mother, father, sister, or brother,
has had a heart attack or stroke), should take at
least 3 to 6 grams of vitamin C and 2 to 3 grams
of lysine per day.
And those who have had a heart attack or stroke
should take at least 6 or more grams of vitamin C
and 4 to 6 grams of lysine. This, together with
vitamin A and E, was his specific
recommendation for the prevention and
treatment of cardiovascular disease.
L-Lysine is particularly helpful in restoring
normal arginine levels important for the
maintenance of healthy gum and lip tissue. L-Lysine is also an effective natural remedy for herpes infections and cold sores.
One double-blind placebo-controlled study
followed 52 participants with a history of herpes
flare-ups.5 While receiving 3 g of L-lysine every
day for 6 months, the treatment group experienced an
average of 2.4 fewer herpes flare-ups than the
placebo group—a significant difference. The lysine
group's flare-ups were also significantly less severe
and healed faster.
Another double-blind placebo-controlled crossover
study on 41 subjects also found improvements in the
frequency of attacks.
