One of the hardest things for a parent to learn is that their child is suffering from depression. My son Joey is nine years old. Ever since he started Kindergarten, I have heard from his teachers that he is a sensitive boy who cries a lot. Now in the third grade, Joey still cries over what seems like minute things, according to his teacher. When I received a phone call from his third grade teacher, (every teacher has called me on the same subject), she recommended that we send Joey to the school counselor. What could it hurt, right? Well, after several months of visits, I received a phone call from the counselor, recommending a child psychiatrist...because the psychiatrist could put Joey on medications for his depression!
